Wave is a national business water supplier formed by merging two regional suppliers, Anglian Water Business and Northumbrian Business Water. This merger combined expertise and resources, creating one of the largest and most trusted business water suppliers in Britain.

Wave is the default water retailer for businesses in the Anglian and Northumbrian Water regions, meaning most companies automatically receive their water services from Wave Utilities.

Since the water market deregulation in 2017, businesses in England have been free to choose their water supplier. However, many have yet to take advantage of this opportunity.

Wave is the default water retailer for businesses in Anglia and Northumbria. Below are the default business water rates for small businesses in these areas that consume less than 500 cubic meters of water each year.

These rates are published default rates which apply to businesses in the area that have not agreed a fixed contract with Wave.

Anglian default prices

Default prices for 2025/26:

  • Standing water: £77.10
  • Volumetric water: £2.5227/m3
  • Standing wastewater: £64.78
  • Volumetric wastewater: £2.3069/m3
  • Surface drainage: £48.14
  • Highways drainage: £21.98

Northumbria default prices

Default prices for 2025/26:

  • Standing water: £93.68
  • Volumetric water: £1.6336/m3
  • Standing wastewater: £56.51

Wave offers different tariff options for businesses, providing flexibility to suit your needs.

Streamline green tariff (default tariff)

Businesses using up to 500 cubic meters of water annually that haven’t chosen a specific tariff are placed on the Streamline Green default business water tariff. This provides standard pricing but is typically higher than fixed contract rates. Customers can switch at any time to a better deal.

Streamline orange tariff (default tariff)

The Streamline Orange tariff is the default option for businesses consuming over 500 cubic meters of water per year. This offers standard pricing but is typically higher than fixed contract rates. Customers can switch at any time to a better deal.

Fixed contract

A fixed contract secures a set retail fee for the duration of the agreement, helping businesses manage costs. However, the wholesale element of the bill, which regional water companies set, is reviewed annually and may increase or decrease on April 1st each year.

Wave Utilities contract features

Wave’s fixed contracts are available to businesses anywhere across Scotland and England. These contracts include important terms regarding payments, credit checks, and what happens when your agreement ends. Understanding these details can help businesses manage their accounts effectively.

Payments for fixed contracts must be made by direct debit unless otherwise agreed. Payments are typically collected 14 days after the bill is issued. If a Direct Debit fails or is cancelled, Wave may charge an administration fee and remove any applicable discounts.

Wave will notify you at least 30 days before your contract ends, detailing your options. If no new contract is agreed upon, your account may move to Wave’s Deemed Contract, which may have different rates or terms.

Wave may carry out credit checks before or during your contract. If your credit history indicates a risk of non-payment or you have no credit history, Wave may request a security deposit. This deposit may be used to cover any unpaid charges if needed.
